Cutting Irregular Shapes

Print the pattern at 100% or Actual Size. Do not use Fit to Page, Scale to Fit, or another setting that changes the pattern’s size.

Before cutting the pattern, measure the printed 2 × 2 inch test box in both directions. It must measure exactly 2 inches wide and 2 inches high. If it does not, correct the print settings and print the pattern again.

Cut out the paper pattern along its outline. Place it on the chipboard and trace around the complete shape.

Remove the paper pattern, then cut the chipboard carefully along the traced line. Use controlled passes where needed to follow angles, curves, and corners accurately.

Identify the piece’s placement on its matched exterior fabric before applying glue.

If the chipboard is part of a hinged exterior, pay especially close attention to its orientation, spacing, and relationship to the adjoining pieces.

Glue the chipboard piece to the wrong side of the fabric in the marked position. Smooth it firmly into place and let the glue dry.

Mark the fabric buffer specified by the pattern around the irregular chipboard piece.

Follow the outline of the piece so the buffer remains consistent around curves, corners, and narrow areas. Cut the fabric along the marked line.

Identify the fabric and lining card that match the irregular cardstock piece. Check the fabric direction and the piece’s orientation before applying glue.

Glue the lining card to the wrong side of the fabric. Smooth it firmly into place and let the glue dry.

Mark the fabric buffer specified by the pattern around the irregular cardstock piece.

Follow the outline of the piece so the buffer remains consistent around curves, corners, and narrow areas. Cut the fabric along the marked line.

Print the irregular shape template from the pattern and cut out the paper template.

Place the template on the cardstock and trace around it. Cut the cardstock carefully along the traced line, keeping curves smooth and corners accurate.
